Traveller’s ‘Tweets’

You’ve probably heard of Twitter.  Celebrities of every genre seem to make daily news based on their uses and abuses of this latest concept in online social networking. Papers seem to dedicate scores of columns to speculation about which personalities actually update their Twitter pages themselves (this group apparently includes the very popular Tweeter Stephen Fry), and those who do not (supposedly this group is comprised of such renegades as Obama, although some would argue that he does have better things to do than construct 140-character updates about his life…)

However, as with the noble art of blogging, Twitter is being creatively exploited to promote businesses, and even more sensibly: to enhance their services.  Here are a couple of recent newspaper articles featuring the better examples of Tweeting for travel:

50 Great Travel Tweeters – from the Telegraph Online

Which travel firms do Twitter well (and badly)? – from the Times Online

This article from the very interesting ‘Mashable.com’ provides a really interesting insight into the different ways in which brands are promoting themselves on Twitter, and they have a section dedicated to travel companies.

40 of the Best Twitter Brands and the People behind them

Why not give Twitter a try? Perhaps, like me, you don’t know where to start.  Once again, Mashable steps up, with a handy article entitled ‘Top 7 Twitter Tutorials on YouTube‘, which should get you up and running in no time.

Don’t forget to come back here and let us know how your Twittering is going!
